Hello there! My name is Kyle van Wiltenburg, and I am a multi-faceted developer with a focus on merging the worlds of video game design and audio to create enriched and immersive experiences.  I received my degree in Interactive Media and Game Design from the University of Southern California in 2021. With a versatile yet developed skill set in game design, sound design, music, and software engineering, I am a confident and capable asset for any video game studio.

My interest in game development started when I was a child growing up in the province of British Columbia, Canada. When I was not cooped up inside playing games such as The Legend of Zelda or Super Monkey Ball, I was out exploring the large patches of forest scattered throughout my neighbourhood. I wondered how I could capture the magic and excitement of these adventures so I could share it with others; something that seemed so seamless in the games I regularly played. This sparked my passion for video games and, more specifically, how they have the power to emotionally charge their audiences.

In 2012, I discovered the game Minecraft, which allowed players to create their own adventures and mini-games that could be shared online with the rest of the world. At the age of thirteen, I created one such game within Minecraft—based on Cartoon Network's Adventure Time—which to date has over 700,000 collective downloads. This passion project spread like wildfire and was played by countless influencers on YouTube. It gave me a taste of what game development could be like, and it has continued to be one of my key motivators ever since.

After completing my Eighth Level Piano Performance Examinations via the Royal Conservatory of Music, I began to notice how impactful music and audio could be within  video games. Upon being accepted into USC's Interactive Media and Game Design program, I decided to also complete a Minor in Music Production and enroll in as many audio-related courses as I could find to get a better understanding of how audio can affect a player’s experience. Since then, I have had the honour of working in both game design and game audio for projects such as Plasticity and Beasts of Maravilla Island

Today I am always searching for new opportunities to share my unique capabilities with the industry. Upon graduating from USC in Spring 2021, I plan to utilize my combined experience in game design and audio to help shape the future for immersion and interactivity within games. In the meantime, I continue to develop personal game projects such as Chiccolo, as well as occasionally stream gaming content on Twitch.
